A horse symbolically carries us to unknown destinations. When we become involved with horses we begin to open to a new world of possibilities and challenges. As a horse initiate, we open our lives to a new realm of experience. We have the opportunity to learn about ourselves, and along the way, we inevitably experience ranges of emotion that more timid people might want to avoid. Yet we continue to move forward because horses inspire us. They give us a glimpse of who we can become.

My horse artwork has carried me on countless journeys of life, but until recently I didn’t feel ready to experience becoming a rider. It took a few very special horses to awaken that desire in me, to make me aware of what that magical connection in motion could feel like. Now I am taking the steps toward learning this new art form.

I suppose learning to work with horses, is like when I learned to draw. I had a natural talent, but I still had to practice and try different techniques in order to find my own creative expression. This is also the case in working with horses. I listen to others instruction, I practice and try different techniques. But what I am really seeking is my own creative expression. I know that if I learn to listen to the horse – that someday inspiration will strike – and I will know what I had previously only glimpsed. Then I can go from paint by number – to fine art.
